This weeks hidden gems: Car Seat Headrest, The Olivia Tremor Control, and King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard

If you’re like me you cant get enough of music. And good new music is always welcome! Personally I find I can enjoy something from all genres, though I consistently listen to classic/psychedelic rock or alternative indie. But enough rambling! This week we are looking at three newly discovered artists!

Starting out as a solo project by front man Will Toledo, the band has added Ethan Ives, Andrew Katz, and Seth Dalby.  The music sounds like something ripped from a coming of age movie- which is something I love in music! A mixture of angst, poetry and kickass vocals, Car Seat Headrest pulls this off without sounding cheesy or forced. Having their single Oh! Starving thrown into the hit Netflix series Thirteen Reasons Why (Though Toledo later came to slam the series for glorifying suicide), this is definitely a band you want to keep an eye on. Their catchy tunes and unique sound is something that will be a great addition to your jam playlist!

The Olivia Tremor Control

Prominent in the 90’s, this rock band included members  Will Cullen Hart,  John Fernandes, Eric Harris, Derek Almstead, Bill Doss and last weeks hidden gem Jeff Mangum. Their music reminds me of Beatles Magical Mystery Tour or some other stuff made in the 60s or 70s. My favorite song by them at the moment is Jumping Fences. Its one of those songs that make me want to find a beach side just to go cruising beside. The band went on hiatus in 2000, but got back together in 2009. Key member Bill Doss died July 31, 2012. Though The Olivia Tremor Control’s official website confirms this on their official website, a cause of death has yet to be release- rest in peace!

King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard

Get ready to rock out with King Gizzard and the Wizard Lizard! This Australian psychedelic band formed in 2010 and consists of  Stu Mackenzie, Ambrose Kenny Smith, Cook Craig, Joey Walker, Lucas Skinner, Eric Moore, and Michael Cavanagh.  This band knows how to take some killer artistic photos, as they have a nice aesthetic going for them. Not to mention their hair!(Its a well known fact im a sucker for guys with long hair) They are touring at the moment and have a slew of upcoming events. Im really happy I gave these groovy dudes a listen as they have made a nice addition to my playlist!
